Andrew J. Young, MA, ABD, Temple University Department of Sociology
Andrew J. Young is a PhD candidate and adjunct in Sociology at Temple University and an adjunct professor at Drexel University. AJ also has a Master’s degree in Philosophy and Bachelor’s degrees in Women’s and Gender Studies and Philosophy from American University in Washington, DC. His academic work centers on gender and sexuality in culture, specifically how queer and transgender identities are experienced, represented, and negotiated in popular culture, sports, and organizations. He is currently working on his dissertation: Who Can Tell Our Story? The Lambda Literary Awards and the Development of a Transgender Literature. Other areas of interest include queer theory, body and embodiment, masculinities, sexualization of culture, and the sociology of sport. AJ’s passion for teaching and learning is driven by a commitment to fun and whimsy, a queer social justice perspective, and a firm belief that everyone can create social change.
