Moderator, Plenary on LGBTQ Scholarship
Simone Kolysh is a PhD Candidate in Sociology at the CUNY Graduate Center, with a concentration in Women’s Studies and a certificate in LGBTQ Studies, and is currently Quantitative Reasoning Fellow at Kingsborough Community College. Her published work includes the “Transgender Movements in the United States” entry for the Wiley-Blackwell Encyclopedia of Gender and Sexuality Studies and a chapter on being a raging lesbian scholar in a forthcoming text Negotiating the Emotional Challenges of Doing Deeply Personal Research edited by Alexandra C.H. Nowakowski and J.E. Sumerau. In her dissertation work, she addresses catcalling and LGBTQ directed harassment in the public sphere at the intersection of gender, sexuality, race and space. As adjunct professor, she teaches courses in Sociology and Women’s Studies at Brooklyn College and Lehman College and is committed to radical, anti-racist feminist pedagogy and activism.
